On 23 June 2013 Georgian Wine Festival took place in the newly renovated Tsikhisubani district of the city Gori. The event was organized by the Georgian Wine Federation and the Ministry of Regional Developmen and Infrastructure of Georgia. Wine Festival was hosted by the Governenor’s Administration of Shida Kartli region. The Idea and the inspiration of the Georgian Wine Festival belongs to Andro Barnovi.
The aim of the Georgian Wine Festival was to promote Kartli wines that are known qualities for an exceptional taste; As well as conservation and diversification of local vine varieties. Some of the objectives of this festival were:
•Introduction and promotion of the wines produced from the rare and unique grapes
•Creating a catalog of the wine makers in the region or Kartli
•Providing consultation and the servese to the Wine makers
•To inspiring new wine manufacurers.
•Attrachting domestic and foreign markets.
Local winemakers of the Kartli region presented wines that have not reached market yet;
Guestlist included representatives from legislative and executive branches of government, diplomatic corps, representatives of domestic and foreign NGO’s, religious leaders, actors and singers. President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili also attended Wine Festival.
Jazz Band “Kanudosi” and Georgian folk ansamble were the musical performers. Festival exhibited historical artifacts and photographs from the local museums in relation to wine. In addition to wine visitors were able to purchase different varieties and assortment of chesses, local dried fruits, Churchkhela, handmade items and souvenir made by upto thirty local artist .
Winemakers received certificates and miscellaneous gifts.
On 31 August, 2013 traditional wine festival was held in Ambrolauri , the center of Racha-Lechkhumi. Up to sixty winemakers from Racha and Lechkhumi participated in the event. These local winemakers produce high quality homemade wine.
